ALKHOBAR: Veteran basketball organizer Adul Aziz “Jawo” Dizon added another feather in his cap when he was honored as one of the Most Outstanding OFW Men 2015 by OFW Congress Eastern Province.
Dizon, 61, was among the 17 awarded for their contribution in the community in various fields of endeavor on the occasion of the 15 years anniversary celebration of OFW Congress last Friday at the International Philippine School in Alkhobar.
Coinciding with the awarding of the Most Outstanding OFW Men 2015 was the induction of the 7th Congress officers.
Dayang Dayang Sitti Kausar Jaafar, OIC POLO-Eastern Region Operations, was the chief guest and speaker during the affair. She presented a plaque of recognition and medal to each honoree assisted by Mary Jane Tupaz, chairwoman Advisory Council OFWC-EP 6th Congress, Jaypee M. Vega, president OFWC-EP 6th Congress; Victor Caballero, EVP OFWC-EP 6th and 7th Congress; and Andrew Nathaniel Santos, VP for Strategic Planning and Good Governance OFW-EP 6th Congress.
Later in the evening, Jaafar inducted the newly elected Executive Council 2016-2017 led by president 7th Congress Andrew Nathaniel Santos.
Jawo, as he is fondly called by Filipino basketball community all over the Kingdom, is the CEO of CEEPO (Coordination Est. for Events Planning and Organization). He has served as the commissioner for FABA (Filipino Arabian Basketball Association) and PBL (Pilipino Basketball League). Jawo by training is a technical man having attended the Don Bosco Technical College in Mandaluyong 1985-1986. At the PCCR he received Bachelor’s degree in criminology in 1978.
It was as head of CEEPO that Dizon famously brought the PBA Legends Tour in the Kingdom two times – in April 2015 and October 2012.
A Naujan, Oriental Mindoro native, Dizon first worked abroad at 36 in 1991 when he was hired by Al Babtain Group of Companies in Riyadh as CND programmer operator. He did not renew his two years contract with this company only to find himself balik Saudi in 1993 when he grabbed a job offer from Sasco in Jeddah, one of the biggest automotive shops in Saudi Arabia where he worked as technical supervisor and later promoted to warehouse manager and material controller.
But the lure of sports had Dizon, who endeared himself to basketball fans with his inimitable style of doing play-by-play at tournaments, founding the SCORE (Saudi Committee of Recreation and Entertainment) in 1994. Dizon stayed in Jeddah until his final exit in 1997. A third opportunity to come back and worked in Saudi knocked in 1998 for Dizon when he was hired by Dammam-based multinational company Arabian Steel Company.
